Abstract
Objective:To study on the relationship between ability of daily life and depressive symptoms among people over 50 years old. Methods:The ability of daily life and depressive symptoms of 304 people over 50 years old in a community in Hefei city were investigated by questionnaire through cluster sampling. Results:There were 21 and 59 people with disability for Physical Activities of Daily Living(ADL) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living(IADL),which accounted for 6.9% and 19.4% respectively. The average scores of Self-rating Depression Scale(SDS) and the rates of depressive symptoms were significantly different between disable and non-disable groups both for ADL and IADL.Monovariate logistic regression analysis showed that ADL,IADL,spouse and life support are the main risk factors of depressive symptoms of these people.IADL was the only independent risk factor of depressive symptoms which suggested by multivariate logistic regression analysis. Conclusion:The ability of daily life of the people over 50 years old in community were obviously damaged. It is of great significance to increase the ability of daily life for depression prevention and quality of life improvement.
