Expression and Prognostic Significance of ERCC1 in Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

Objective To study the clinical and prognostic significance of DNA repairing factor ERCC1 protein in non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC).Methods Paraffin sections of NSCLC specimens(n=117)were collected for the preparation of tissue chips.Expression of ERCC1 was examined by using SP immunohistochemistry to analyze the associations with clinical factors.Results In NSCLC tissue,the positive expression rate of ERCC1(n=117)was 39.3%,whereas the expression of ERCC1 did not differ significantly between NSCLC tissue and normal lung tissue(P0.05).The expression of ERCC1 was closely associated with NSCLC differentiation and histological type(P0.05).The five-year survival rate of ERCC1-positive group was higher than that of negative group(41.6%vs.28.0%,P0.05),showing that the expression of ERCC1 was associated with the prognosis of NSCLC.Conclusion ERCC1-positve patients have a favorable prognosis,suggesting the role of ERCC1 in the evaluation of NSCLC prognosis.
