Abstract
Dongying Nanjiao Waterworks is the first large-scale waterworks using submerged UF membrane system in China. Due to poor taste and odor in the finished water,chlorine dioxide has been used since September 2012 to improve the finished water quality and guarantee the drinking water safety. The quality of drinking water disinfected with chlorine dioxide was compared to that disinfected with liquid chlorine. The results showed that chlorine dioxide disinfection was more efficient than liquid chlorine disinfection to ensure drinking water safety. Chlorine dioxide had a slight advantage over liquid chlorine in COD Mn control,but a significant advantage over liquid chlorine in ammonia nitrogen control,and ammonia nitrogen in the treated water with chlorine dioxide was more than 50% less than that with liquid chlorine. The control of THMs with chlorine dioxide was an order of magnitude lower than that with liquid chlorine.
