A Cognitive Comparison of Semantic Extension of "Eye" in Chinese and English

Abstract
From perspective of cognitive linguistics,this paper makes comparative study of semantic extension of eye in English and Chinese.The study indicates that metaphor and metonymy are basic ways for the meaning extension of eye in both English and Chinese;the relation between metaphor and metonymy is in succession and interaction;in the cognitive process of meaning extension of eye,the similarity is much more than individuality.
