Abstract

The organic salts in PDO fermentation liquor were removed by use of electrodialysis. In order to select the ion exchange membrane being suitable for the desalination process, four pairs of ion exchange membranes were used respectively and the effects of their properties were investigated. It is shown that the selection of anion exchange membrane is crucial for the desalination of organic salts. If the conductibility of both anion and cation membranes are high, the desalination effect will be good.In addition, the diffusions of neutral solute through varied membranes were studied, and the optimum anion and cation exchange membranes were selected by comparing the influence of desalination with the loss of neutral solute in the desalination process of PDO fermentation liquor via electrodialysis.
