Abstract
High shear rheology of pigment slurry was studied by using the capillary viscometer. The results showed that the high shear rheology of pigment slurry is not deteriorated, even though the low shear viscosity increases significantly when the dosages of alkali and dispersant are higher than the optimal ones. There is no obvious effect of pH value on high shear viscosity of pigment slurry. When the dosage of dispersant is close to the optimal one,the increase of dosage can notablely decrease the high shear rheology of pigment slurry.Comparing with the GCC slurries in the same solid content, the rheology of coarse GCC(2μm,66%)is better than the fine GCC(2μm,95%~96%),but the rheology of ultra fine GCC(2μm,99%)is the best. When the GCC slurry is dispersed then left for an hour, the high shear viscosity of GCC is not changed, although the lower shear viscosity increases.
