Abstract
Objective To investigate the effect of Taurine on proliferation and extracellular matrix secretion of rat mesangial cells in vitro. Method Rat mesangial cells were incubated with different concentration of taurine.Cell proliferation was assessed by MTT colorimetric assay.Cell cycle was detected by flow cytometry, and type Ⅳ collagen was determined by ELISA. Results Administration of 5~80 mmol/L taurine into culture medium had no toxicity to mesangial cells, but could significantly inhibit mesangial cells proliferation in dose-dependent manner, subsequently increased the cells in G 0/G 1 phase and decreased the cells in S phase. In addition,Taurine could markedly inhibit type Ⅳ collagen and laminin secretion in mesangial cells ( P 0.01). Conclusion Taurine can significantly inhibit mesangial cell proliferation and type Ⅳ collagen secretion.
