Expression and significance of vascular endothelial growth factor D in gastric cancer

Objective To study the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor D(VEGF-D)and its relationship with lymph node metastasis in human gastric carcinoma.Methods Eighty-eight patients with gastric carcinoma underwent gastrectomy were devided into two groups(positive and negative for lymph node metastasis),and 10 specimens of normal gastric mucosa were used as control group.The expression of VEGF-D protein was detected by immunohistochemistry.Results VEGF-D protein was expressed in 62.5% of 88 gastric cancer patients,which was significantly higher than that(20%)in the control(P0.05).There was no significant correlation between the expression of VEGF-D and lymph node metastasis(P0.05).Conclusion The positive expression rate of VEGF-D is high in gastric carcinoma,which may not be correlated with lymph node metastasis of gastric carcinoma.
