Correlation of serum total MMP-2,MMP-9 levels with human non-small cell lung cancer metastasis

Objectives:To investigate correlation of serum total MMP 2,MMP 9 levels with human non small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) metastasis, and to evaluate the clinical value. Methods:Serum total MMP 2,MMP 9 levels were detected in 72 patients with human non small cell lung cancer and 20 healthy volunteers by ELISA with monoclonal antibody against human total MMP 2,MMP 9. Results: Mean levels of MMP 2,MMP 9 were significantly elevated in cancer samples compared with normal serum( P 0.01). A significant difference was found between levels in the presence versus the absence of metastasis (MMP 2, P 0.05,MMP 9, P 0.01). MMP 2,MMP 9 levels in the sera in NSCLC metastasis group, did not show significant correlation with sex, age, or tumor histotype( P 0.05). Conclusions:Serum total MMP 2,MMP 9 levels may provide prognostic information of NSCLC metastasis.
