Abstract
Objective To investigate the role and significance of serum matrix metalloproteinase-9 and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase-1 in atherosclerosis by observing their changes in the patients with coronary heart disease. Methods Thirty patients with acute coronary syndrome(ACS group),30 patients with stable angina pectoris(SAP group),and 30 healthy controls were measured and compared the serum levels of matrix metalloproteinase-9 and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase-1 with enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. Results The serum level of serum matrix metalloproteinase-9 in ACS group was higher than that in SAP group(P0.01)and control group(P0.01),and was higher in SAP group than that in control group(P0.01),while the serum level of tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase-1 in ACS group was lower than that in SAP group(P0.01)and control(P0.01).The serum matrix metalloproteinase-9 decreased and tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase-1 increased after treatment in ACS group. Conclusion Plaque rupture is related to the increase of the serum level of serum matrix metalloproteinase-9 and the decrease of the serum level of tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinase-1,which may well describe the degrees of coronary artery lesion and evaluate the prognosis of patients with coronary heart diseases, and can be regarded as serum markers of plaque rupture.
