Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the changes of nasal resistance in patients with nasal septum deviation before and after surgery, and provide objective basis for the changes of the subjective symptoms of the patients before and after operation. METHODS Twenty five patients with nasal septum deviation were treated surgically. Rhinomanometry through front nostril and visual analogue scale(VAS) of nasal symptoms score before and one month after the operation were recorded.Paired t-test and paired rank sum test were used for the data analysis. RESULTS After septoplasty, nasal resistance decreased compared with preoperative states and total efficiency rate was 92%(23/25). Nasal resistance for the narrow side of the nasal cavity decreased obviously compared with preoperative states, and the difference was statistically significant. But nasal resistance for the wide side increased. CONCLUSION Rhinomanometry is a kind of measurement for nasal ventilation function. It can be used before and after surgery to objectively evaluate the changes of symptom for the patients with nasal septum deviation.
