Abstract

Objective To evaluate the changes of left ventricular function in coronary heart disease(CHD) by using left ventricle pressure estimate and ventriculography before and after percutaneous transluminal coronary intervention(PCI).?(Methods)The 50 cases(30 CHD patients and 20 healthy normal controls) were recruited after undergoing coronary angiography. In the patient group, the left ventriculography(in right oblique 30 degree) and the pressure curve in left ventricle and aorta were recordered continuously before after PCI.The results were processed to measure or calculate the main indexes of the left ventricle, such as the ejection fraction(EF),left ventricular end-diastolic pressure(LVEDP),the ventricular stiffness constant(K),the pressure descending time constant(T),and to set up the pressure-volume loop.?Results Because of the coronary lesion,T and K and LVEDP were increased, and EF was decreased. In normal controls, the pressure-volume loop was located in the left and lower portion of the coordinate system.Along with the progress of the coronary stenosis, the pressure-volume loop moved toward the right upper portion of the coordinate system. After PCI,all of the indexes of the heart function got improved, but they could not catch up the normal ones.?Conclusion As a routine method, the left ventricle pressure estimate and ventriculography can reflect many parameters of ventricular function quantitatively, which are sensitive, objective, comprehensive and useful. They can be used as an index to evaluate the therapeutic effect of PCI.
