Leisure,Recreational Sport,and Developing Trend in China

This paper analyses the definition and meaning of leisure,recreation and recreational sport in addition to tracing the origin and progress of recreational sport.Recreational sport of the American model is discussed from five dimensions.Thereby,the future development of recreational sport in China can be considered from the following perspectives:first,recreational sport will offer a wider range of development for Sport For All movement in China.Second,leisure and recreation will be better understood among the Chinese scholars as well as ordinary people,and people will participate in sport not only for fitness but also for fun,i.e.for both physical and mental health.Third,the values of recreational sport as a specialized field will be recognized in China,and further studies in this field will be conducted.Fourth,Beijing 2008 Olympic Games will help develop and popularize recreational sport in China.Fifth,mass media such as television and internet will play a significant role in promoting recreational sport.Finally,recreational sport will become so prevalent that sporting industry and job market will grow very fast in response to the demands of recreational sport participants.
