Abstract

Objective To investigate the association of the metaphase Ⅱ oocyte with embryo quality and clinical pregnancy after intracytoplasmic sperm injection(ICSI).Methods Before ICSI,metaphase Ⅱ oocytes without granular cells were graded microscopically. The fertilization rate, cleavage rate,high-quality embryo rate were compared in different oocytes.Embryo morphology was assessed on the day of embryo transfer and then the association of oocyte morphology with embryo quality and clinical pregnancy was analyzed. Results The fertilization rate, cleavage rate,high-quality embryo rate differed significantly between the oocytes with a higher morphological score and those with a low score(P 0.05).The oocytes with the top score had the highest rates of fertilization, cleavage, and high-quality embryo(92.26%,98.47%,and 67.05%,respectively).A highest pregnancy rate was also observed in the oocytes with the highest quality. Conclusions The grading of oocyte morphology can predict the rates of fertilization, cleavage, and high-quality embryo following ICSI and can be helpful in selecting embryos for embryo transfer.
