Abstract

The seismic region of North China has already entered the later phase of the fourth active period which began from A.D.1000.In order to discuss if strong earthquakes of M≥7.0 are possible to occur in seismic region of North China in the later phase of the fourth active period,examples related to strong earthquakes of M≥7.0 in seismic region of North China are studied.The result indicates that four strong earthquakes of M 6.0 occurred in seismic region of North China since 1989,four moderate earthquakes occurred in Xinding basin,Linfen basin and Weihe basin of Shanxi seismic belt and three deep earthquakes of M 7.0 occurred in Northeast China since 1994 are related to strong earthquake of M 7.0 in seismic region of North China in the future.The seismic region of North China would be in a dangerous period,five years or longer to come,in which some strong earthquakes of M 7.0 would occur.The normal stress and static Coulomb's failure stain shock's.
