Abstract

The Xidi village was inscribed on the UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage in November,2000.In order to alleviate contradiction between heritage protection and rural construction,the local government decided to set up another new Xidi village.The planning of the new village faces some common problems of the new socialist countryside to keep the plain beauty of the historical village so as to obtain the continuity of the new and old architecture.The aim is to create a new village with traditional characteristics and some new concepts to realize the goal of harmony and sysmbiosis of both the old and the new.
