Characteristic Research of Zeng Guofan's Neo-Confucianism Thought

Abstract

According to the needs of political practice, Zeng Guo-fan took in every Chinese traditional philosophy to be his own, which advocated to cultivate one's moral character and mediated the idealist philosophy struggle between Confucian school of the Han and Song dynasties. Zeng Guo-fan absorbed the practical and rational elements of Confucianism, claimed for dedicating one's life to a cause and valued seeking for truth from facts. His philosophy was like the cardiotonic injected to the weak and corrupted body of the Qing dynasty.
