Abstract

Based on the linear theory of flutter analysis, considering the nonlinear behavior of structural dynamic characteristics and aerodynamic forces which change with wind speed and structural deformation,an approach of three dimensional nonlinear flutter analysis for long span bridges is described herein.By using this method, nonlinear flutter analysis for long span bridges with streamlined and bluff main girder sections are performed. The essences and differences of flutter behaviors for long span bridges with different main girder sections are investigated, the flutter mechanism is also revealed.
