Abstract

Objective To study the method of establishing the model of secretory otitis media. Methods The animal models of secretory otitis media were established by injecting platelet activating factor(PAF)into the middle ear of guinea pigs in order to understand the hearing threshold and the pathologic changes of middle ear and Eustachian tube mucisa. Results The hearing threshold of 25 ears was elevated in range of low frequency. The main pathologic change was secretion and infiltration of inflammatory cells in the middle ear and Eustachian tube. Conclusions PAF may induce the inflammatory reaction and effusion of the middle ear.
