Abstract

In this paper the development of landscape geography in England and the United States is discussed under the following headings: cultural landscape within the context of a resynthesis of cultural geography, the meaning of the term landscape, the models of landscape interpretation, and the politics of landscape. The cultural geography in the west is re_synthesized since 1980s, with cultural landscape research the focus. There are two commonly uses of landscape concept, one is artic, and the other is in social science. There are four professional interpretation models of cultural landscape. The politics of landscape is a key construction area of new cultural geography, which is even considered the core of landscape interpretation. The interest of geographers toward literature is increasing, the different forms of literature are used as ways of studying landscape.
