Abstract
Objective To evaluate the skills, indications and advantages of supraorbital keyhole approach in the resection of sellar tumors. Methods Fifteen patients(9 males,6 females) with sellar tumors(10 meningiomas,3 craniopharyngiomas,2 pituitary tumors)with the maximal diameter of 20~40 mm were treated with tumor removal through supraorbital keyhole approach. Before the operation, the most common symptoms in these patients were visual dysfunction and headache. Results Complete tumor removal was achieved in 13 patients;12 of 13 patients with visual dysfunction were improved. There were no approach-related complications post-operatively.Conclusion The supraorbital keyhole approach proved to be a safe, effective and minimal invasive technique.Selection of appropriate cases and careful microsurgical procedure are crucial for a successful operation.
