Abstract

Objective To investigate the changes of arterial stiffness by measuring pulse wave velocity(PWV) in prehypertensive people. Methods The carotid-femoral PWV(CF-PWV) were measured in 622 prehypertensive people using Complior SP automatic arteriosclerosis measurement system, and were compared with normotensive group (n=512) and hypertension grade 1 group(n=445).Results The CF-PWV of prehypertensive group was significantly higher than normotensive group and lower than hypertension grade 1 group. The difference between every two groups were significant (all P0.01).Conclusions Arterial stiffness increases in prehypertensive people with arterial elasticity already decreased, which is better than that of hypertensive people.
