Abstract

The Green Berets, one of the earliest novels on the Vietnam War, depicts the Vietnamese from a colonists perspective. The novel is consequently full of prejudices towards and misunderstanding of the Vietnamese. Americans' priority in discourse reduces the Vietnamese to a silent and obscure group in a war on Vietnams land. The author with his power of writing influenced readers in constructing Vietnam into a country different from reality. This imagined community misguided the Americans for some time in history.
