Abstract

Discourse misunderstanding is an inevitable phenomenon in daily communication.This paper analyses discourse misunderstanding based on the relevance theory in pragmatics and points out in verbal communication the speaker's ostention and the hearer's inference should be taken into account so as to reduce or remove discourse misunderstanding.
