Abstract

Within systemic functional grammar, both the Sydney and Cardiff Models present a description of the transitivity system. Through the comparison between the two descriptions, this paper attempts to reveal the characteristics of the Cardiff Grammar. The study indicates that the Cardiff Grammar observes the systemic functional principle—meaning as primary—more fully in the clas-sification of participant roles and processes in the transitivity system.
