The effect of finasteride on treatment of hematuria in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia

Objective:To study the effect of finasteride on treatment of hematuria in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH).Method:We evaluated 86BPH patients with intermittent hematuria who were randomly divided into three group:control group(n=23),routine finasteride group(n=30,5mg,qd)and high dose finasteride group(n=33,5mg,bid).Routine urine analysis was carried out once a month in all the 86 patients in 12months.Result:In the control group hematuria recurred 65.2%(15/23)but 23.3%(7/30)in the routine finasteride group and 15.2%(5/33)in the high dose finasteride group within 12months.There were a statisticallv significant different between the control group and finasteride group(P 0.05).Conclusion:Finasteride appears to be effective in eliminating hematuria caused by benign prostate hyperplasia.
