Abstract

A bacterial strain FH-12 with high phenol degrading ability was isolated from sludge of the drainage ditch of waste water in fluobenzene production. At a concentration of 1 200 mg/L,this strain degraded phenol completely in 48 hours when it was grown in basal medium with phenol as the sole carbon source. The study of the morphology, physiological and biochemical characteristics of strain FH-12,and analysis of 16S rDNA sequence for strain FH-12 showed that characteristics of strain FH-12 were essentially consistent with Alcaligenes ruhlandii. The optimum condition for degradation of phenol was aeration, temperature of 30 ℃,pH values of 8.0.The aniline and F-of high concentration had no influence on phenol degradation. At a concentration of 1 000 mg/L phenol waste water in fluobenzene production, this strain degraded phenol completely in 40 hours when it was added sutable inorganic salt.
