Abstract

Objective: To explore the efficacy and tolerability of aripiprazole in the treatment of hyperprolactinemia caused by risperidone. Method:Sixty schizophrenic patients with hyperprolactinemia associated with risperidone were randomly divided into aripiprazole group(n=30)and placebo group(n=30),receiving 6 weeks treatment .The prelactin (PRL) was measured at the baseline and the end of study. The efficacy and side effects were assessed with the brief psychiatric rating scale (BPRS) and the treatment emergent symptom scale (TESS) before and after treatment. Results:The concentration of PRL decreased significantly in aripiprazole group after treatment (P0.001).Disappearance of feminine-like breast presented in male patients (11/13)and spontaneous lactation(18/19)were observed in aripiprazole group. There were no significant differences before and after treatment in placebo group (P0.05). Conclusion: Aripiprazole is effective in the treatment of hyperprolactinemia caused by risperidone.
