Abstract
Objective To analyze changes of basal ganglia volume of patients with Parkinson disease(PD) with 3.0T MR SWI.Methods Totally 20 patients with early PD,20 patients with advanced PD and 20 age-matched healthy subjects underwent MRI.The volumes of caudate nucleus, putamen and globus pallidus were measured with SWI.Correlation analysis of basal ganglia volume with Hoehn Yahr grading and the course of PD was carried out. Results Compared with that of normal volunteers, the volume of putamen in patients with early PD decreased 10.79%(P0.05),the advanced PD decreased 22.66%(P0.05),and the volume of putamen in patients with advanced PD decreased 13.31% than that in patients with early PD(P0.05).The volume of globus pallidus in patients with advanced PD decreased 11.65% than that in normal volunteers(P0.05),and decreased 8.51%(P0.05) than early PD patients.Negative correlation between the volume of putamen and Hoehn Yahr grading was found(r=-0.987,P0.001),but no correlation was found between the volume of putamen and course of disease. Conclusion MRI volumetric measurement technique can provide certain assistance for the diagnosis of PD.
