Abstract
Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value of Procalcitonin(PCT)and C reactive protein (CRP)in children with bacterial infection. Methods Serum PCT and peripheral blood CRP level of 51 chil- dren(21 with bacterial infection,17 with virus infection,13 without infection)were determined just when they were hospitalized.Their sensitivity and specificity to bacterial infection were compared as well. Results The serum PCT level in children with bacterial infection was higher than that in children with virus infection or without infection. For bacterial infection diagnosis, the specificity of PCT was superior to CRP,but the sen- sitivity of PCT was inferior to CRP.Conclusion A combination of PCT and CRP can raise the sensitivity and specificity to bacterial infection diagnosis.
