An Analysis of Cancer Mortality from 1996 to 2005 in Anhui Province

Objective To know the status of cancer mortality in Anhui province and to establish strategies for cancer prevention and control.Methods using the death data, we compared cancer mortality by age, sex and area, and calculated the proportion of cancer mortality.Results From 1996 to 2005, the crude mortality rate of cancer was 127.69 per 100 000 (adjusted mortality rate 113.35/100 000).The leading causes of death due to malignancy were lung, stomach and liver cancer in urban area, while stomach, liver and esophageal cancer in rural area. The mortality rate of lung cancer increased obviously wherever in urban or rural areas, and it increased faster in female than in male. The death of people at the age of 45 or above composed 90.32 percent of all death.Conclusion Lung, stomach and liver cancer were the main causes of death in Anhui province. And we should pay much attention to the prevention and control of lung cancer, particularly of female. It is very important to improve the health of the old people.
