Abstract

Objective To study the clinical features and the prognosis of mucinous breast carcinoma. Methods A total of 91 patients admitted in Hainan provincial people's hospital from 1993 to 2005 were assigned into group A(61cases,of pure mucinous breast carcinoma) and group B(30 cases,of mixed mucinous breast carcinoma). The survival rate in relation to onset age, tumor size,TNM stage and axillary node metastasis was investigated.SPSS11.5 software package were utilized for statistical analysis.Significance was set at P0.05.Results The mean age of the 91 cases was 54.1,which was 54.6 in group A and 53.1 in group B.The lymph node positive rate of group A was 5.0% and showed no correlation with the size of tumor, while that of group B was 48.3%,which was related positively to the size of tumor. The lymph node positive rate in group A was significantly lower than that in group B.The 10-year survival rates of the two groups were 91.7% and 71.4%,respectively.Conclusion The patients with pure mucinous breast carcinoma had a better prognosis than those with mixed mucinous breast carcinoma, which is mostly accompanied by invasive ductal carcinoma.
