Abstract
Objective To investigate the distribution of P.gingivalis and T.forsythia in periodontally healthy adults and chronic periodontitis patients. Methods Subgingival plaque samples were collected from 65 periodontally healthy adults and 62 chronic periodontitis patients.P.gingivalis and T.forsythia were detected by 16S rRNA polymerase chain reaction. Results The prevalence of P.gingivalis,T.forsythia differed significantly in periodontally healthy adults and patients with periodontitis(P0.001).The prevalence of P.gingivalis and T.forsythia in periodontal healthy subjects was 21.6% and 12.3% respectively. The prevalence of P.gingivalis,T.forsythia in diseased sites of patients with chronic periodontitis was 74.2%、58.1%.The prevalence of these bacteria in disease sites were significantly higher than in healthy sites(22.6%、4.8%)(P0.001).P.gingivalis and T.forsythia detected in the same diseased site samples was 51.6%.Conclusion These results indicate a possible association between chronic periodontal disease and the presence of P.gingivalis and /or T.forsythia.
