Abstract

This paper has discussed the classification and importance of a characteristic collection in a university library,and analyzed some universal problems in the construction of such a collection.It has also suggested that for a university library to construct a characteristic collection,emphasis should be given to the training of professionals,the right choice of specialized fields,and the collecting of the unique university resources and local grey literature.
