Treatment of solitary kidney calculi with minimally invasive percutaneous nephrolithotomy

Abstract

Objective To assess the safety and feasibility of minimally invasive percutaneous nephrolithotomy(mPCNL) in treating solitary kidney calculi.Methods We retrospectively investigated 38 patients with solitary kidney calculi,and the patients treated with mininaally invasive pereutaneous nephrolithotomy from May 2004 to January 2009.Results In 38 cases.86.6% stone-free rate was achieved using one-stage minimally invasive percutaneous nephrolithotomy.Single tract was in all cases.The renal function recovered to the norm al level or got significantly better after operation.No major complicatiors were noted in the other patients.Conclusion Minimally invasive percutaneous nephrolithotomy is safe and effective in treating Solitary kidney calculi.Compared to traditional PCNL,it may offer advantages with respect to less intraoperative and postoperative complications,high stone free rate,less invasion,easy recovery and short hospitalization stay.
