Abstract

Objective: To discuss the efficacy and side effects of IMRT in the treatment of the patients with locally advanced cervical cancer in short term. Methods: The information of 47 patients, who had been hospitalized from October2010 to May 2012 with cervical cancer( stage: IIB-IVA),was reviewed. 24 patients were treated with IMRT,the others with three-dimensional radiotherapy( 3D-CRT). All patients received CT scan and were drawn the outline of the target regions and organs at risk while receiving external irradiation with prescription dose: 45 ~ 50 Gy /25 f.192 Ir was used in endovascular treatment with 30 ~ 40 Gy /5 ~ 6 f. Results: On protecting organs at risk( V30 and V40 of head of femur,V30,V40 and V50 of rectum) there was no difference between IMRT and 3D-CRT( P 0. 05). There was no significant difference between gastrointestinal reactions and hematologic toxicity. Both groups got complete remission after treatment. Conclusion: Both radiotherapy techniques had no significant difference on adverse effects and efficacy in short term, but the dose of target region was increased in intensity modulated radiotherapy. It can be used as a technique to treat advanced cervical cancer.
