Abstract
The effect of alloying elements on pitting corrosion resistance of the 2101 duplex stainless steels(DSS) was investigated. The test results show that the pitting rate of the 2101 series(soaked) varies between 1.9-7.0 g/(m2·h),at the same order of magnitude of the 304 stainless steel.Molybdenum(Mo) is a critical element to enhance the corrosion resistance of the DSS 2101,whereas nitrogen(N) has a minor influence. The pitting causes and the Thermo-Calc simulation results indicate that as the ferritic phase is inferior in corrosion resistance,to improve its corrosion resistance will be the key to enhance the total corrosion resistance of the DSS 2101.When the Cr content is fixed to be about 21.5%,Mo,a ferrite-former,is enriched in the ferritic phase, which can improve the ferritic phase's pitting resistance so as to improve the DSS 2101's total corrosion resistance.
