Abstract
Objective:The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of the inhabition to orthodontic tooth movement in rats between diclofenac [a nonspecific cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitor,or a conventional nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug ] . Method:42 male wistar rats in 6 experimental groups:(1)(2)(3)50 g coil spring and injections of rofecoxib, diclofenac or saline-solution,respectively;and(4)(5)(6)100 g coil spring and the same pharmacological treatment as(1)(2)(3),respectively. Result:After 7 days, both rofecoxib and diclofenac significantly inhibited tooth movement, but not reached statistically significant differences. Conclusion:Both rofecoxib and diclofenac have side effect to inhibit tooth movement . When they are used for treating inflammation and pain, there are no substantial differences . [
