Abstract

To investigate the competence of hydroxyapatite bone cement with 8% norvancomycin(HAC/NVCM composite) as an implantable drug delivery system for prophylaxis of bone infection. The bone defects and infection models in rabbits were first established. Then the animals were divided into four groups:Group A with the HAC/NVCM composite putting in the defect;Group B were used NVCM solution injected through rabbits' ear's vein with no drug loaded HAC putting in;group C haven't use any antibiotics with no drug loaded HAC putting in;group D with no antibiotics and no drug loaded HAC putting in.The differences of bone infection and the wound healing were compare by body weight, body temperature, routine blood count and histological observation. The results indicated that HAC/NVCM composite can effectively control the inflammation reaction and promote the wound healing. It can widely be used in the prophylaxis and treatment of bone infection and bone defect.
