Adolescent’s Adult Attachment and Its Relationship with Parenting Styles

Objective: To explore the adult attachment status of adolescents and its relationship with parenting styles. Methods: 610 college students and senior high school students in Changsha were assesed with the RQ, ECR and PBI. Results: ①There were significant differences between father’s parenting styles and mother’s. ②Attachment avoidance was negatively correlated with care(father and mother) and encourage independence (father and mother),attachment anxiety was negatively correlated with mother care, and was positively correlated with control (father and mother). ③Stepwise regression analysis showed that mother care and father encourage independence were significant predictors of attachment avoidance,mother care and mother control were significant predictors of attachment anxiety. Conclusion: Adolescent’s adult attachment was affected by parenting styles.
