The Evolution of Policies Concerning Overseas Chinese Affairs since the Economic Reform and the Interactions between Overseas Chinese-cum-Ethnic Chinese and China

A number of basic concepts about the studies on Overseas Chinese and ethnic Chinese are introduced in the article,together with a few statistics on the returned Overseas Chinese and their families.The author gives a brief account of the important statements on the Overseas Chinese affairs instructed by the government leadership,and a number of major laws and regulations pertinent to the field.The emphasis of discussion,however,is placed on the entry and exit or immigration statistics and the gradual improvement of state immigration policies since the economic reform.Based on a detailed statistical analysis,the author describes the interactions between Overseas Chinese-cum-Ethnic Chinese and China with a focus on a number of aspects,such as the investment and donations from Chinese Overseas,the peaceful promotion of China's unification activities,and the participation of Overseas Chinese,returned Overseas Chinese and their families in government affairs and political consultation.The author finally concludes by pointing out that the keynote should be Cooperation and a Win-Win Situation insofar as the relationship between Overseas Chinese-cum-Ethnic Chinese and their motherland is concerned.
