Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical value of quantitative 99m Tc-pertechnetate thyroid imaging and 99m Tc uptake rate determination for the diagnosis and therapeutic evaluation in patients with subacute thyroiditis. Methods 99m Tc-pertechnetate thyroid imaging was performed on 32 patients with subacute thyroiditis and 20 controls.99m Tc uptake rate and 131I uptake rate were calculated. Results Focal damages and diffuse uptake decrease were found in patients with subacute thyroiditis.99m Tc uptake rate was increased in patients(0.15±0.06),being significantly higher than that in controls(P0.01).Conclusion 99m Tc thyroid imaging and uptaket rate determination can accurately reveal the size, shape and condition of radioactivity distribution of the gland.Quantitative 99mTc-pertechnetate thyroid imaging is a significantly helpful technique in the diagnosis and treatment for subacute thyroiditis.
