Two Views about the Emperor Yan:Scientism and Fideism

Abstract

Since ancient times,the Emperor Yan has been existing in people's mind in two forms: the Emperor Yan as a historical figure and the Emperor Yan as a symbol of faith.This phenomenon results from people's two attitudes towards the Emperor Yan: scientism and fideism.The former not only attaches importance to the folklore and the value of historical documents,but also pays more attention to the value of archaeological data.The people's way of thinking and belief need is the important reason for faith in the Emperor Yan.The development of contemporary society and economy furthers the popularity of the belief in the Emperor Yan.We should treat the Emperor Yan worship in folk belief with the attitude of respecting for the history,for the masses and for the beliefs.
