The Chivalry and Emotional Facets of Lu Xun under the Modernity

This article reexamines the relationship between Lu Xun and the traditional Xia culture from the angle of modernity. It firstly defines the concept of modernity and introduces the relation between Chinese culture and modernity. Then, it discusses the relationship between Lu Xun and the Xia culture from the view of three connotations in modernity's concept. First, how Lu Xun carried out his research and critique of the Xia culture; second, how Lu Xun appealed to thethe soldiers in the spiritual worldwho shared the characteristics with the traditional chivalrous persons, enlightened the masses and put forward the project ofpeople's freedom as the subject; third, from the view of opposing oneself, Lu Xun endowedrevenge, the core of the Xia culture, with the characteristic of self-reflection and made it the powerful weapon to criticize nationality.
