Clinical study of early loading of dental implants in edentulous mandibles

Objective:To evaluate the clinical effectiveness and technical characteristics of early loading of dental implants in edentulous mandible.Method:In this study,8 patients with edentulous mandible were included.All received 4 dental implants in the interforaminal region and had the implants loaded with an overdenture prostheses retained by bar-clip after a week.All patients were followed up by 1、3、6、12 months and the patients were checked every 12 months.The stability of implants,the state of peri-implant soft-tissue,marginal bone resorption ,then state of osseointegration the implants,and patient satisfaction were evaluated.Result:A total of 32 implants were loaded early.No implants were loose or lost during follow-up range 12 to 48 months, mean of 26 months.No infections of peri-implant soft-tissue occurred.No implants exhibited peri-implant radio lucencies.Marginal bone resorption ranged from 0.5 to 1.2 mm,mean of 0.7 mm.Patients were satisfied.Conclusion:The results of this clinical trial suggest that early loading of the implants connected by bar to support overdenture prostheses for edentulous mandible is predicatable,if primary implant stability is enough .
