Clinical evaluation of high-intensive flowable composite in the treatment of pit and fissure caries

Abstract

AIM:To observe the clinical effects of high-intensive flowable composites in the treatment of pit and fissure caries.METHODS:170 permanent molars with occlusal pit and fissure caries in 85 patients were included.After removal of the decayed tissue,the teeth on one side were treated with high-intensive flowable compositein Beautifil Flow plus FO3 in the experimental group,and the adjacent teeth or contralateral teeth were treated with light-cured composite Beutifil Ⅱ polymer in the control group.The modified USPHS / Ryge criteria was used to evaluate the effects 6,12 and 18 months after treatment.SPSS12.0 software package was used for statistical analysis.RESULTS:There was no significant difference between the 2 groups in each index 6 and 12 months after treatment(P 0.05).18 months after treatment the filling retention rate in the experimental and control groups was 98.78% and 90.24%(P 0.05),marginal discoloration 97.56% and 89.02%(P 0.05),respectively.No secondary caries and postoperative sensitivity was observed in experimental group,but 2 of each were observed in the control group.CONCLUSION:High-intensive flowable composite is more effective in the treatment of pit and fissure caries than light-cured composite.
