Abstract

Objective To investigate the efficacy and safety of laparoscopic ventral/incisional hernia repair and summarize the surgical technique and curative effect of this proceeding surgery. Methods We retrospectively reviewed the clinical data of 20 cases of ventral/incisional hernia patients who received laparoscopic repair surgery using composite patches from June 2009 to September 2011. There were 14 male and 6 female, and aged 26-76 years(median age 57). The time after previous laparotomy ranged from 4-26months(average time 7). Among them 13 patients had midline incision hernia, and 7 patients had lateral incision hernia, and 2 patients had recurrence hernia after suture repairs. Results Laparoscopic repair were successfully performed in all patients without convertion to open repair. The size of the hernia ring was 4×5cm-10×13cm.The average operating time was 100 min (ranging from 40 to 170 min). All patients acquired good wound heal. Five patients had postoperation wound seromas, which were aspired and cured. One patient complained of abdominal pain in the hernia area and received meloxicam treatment, the symptom diminished 3 months after operation. 18 patients were followed-up, and during a follow-up range of 6~ 30 months(average 15 months) one recurrence occurred 3 months after operation. Conclusions Laparoscopic ventral/incisional hernia repair is a safe and feasible technique, which lowered invasion, postoperative pain and the complication rates, thus is an optimal procedure for ventral/incisional hernia.
