Abstract

Baiyun sag,the biggest sag in Pearl River Mouth Basin(PRMB),sits on a deep-water area in the northern continental slope,South China Sea.In recent years,a series of gas discoveries have been made in the northern slope-Panyu lower-uplift in Baiyun sag.In this paper,Baiyun sag is called Baiyun Deep-water Area, because it is special in geological conditions and petroleum exploration meanings. In this Area, there are very thick Paleogene source rocks in Wenchang and Enping Formation,Late Paleogene shallow-delta sandstone reservoirs,Neogene large Pearl River Deep-water Fan reservoirs on the continental slope, large faults and diapir zones produced by Dongsha Movement. In addition, bright spots associated with shallow gas are widely spread, and large gas accumulations have been discovered in the northern slope-Panyu lower-uplift of Baiyun sag.All these suggest that Baiyun Deep-water Area is quite good in hydrocarbon accumulation conditions and exploration potential as a large oil gas province.
