Abstract
Objectives: To analyze motility parameters from normozoospermic and asthenospermic semen, and effects of pentoxifylline(PF) on asthenospermic semen Methods: Computer assisted sperm analysis(CASA).The system is HTM IVOS. Results: (1)In normozoospermic semen, the ratio of progressive sperm in the total motile sperm (ten classes gradations according to WHO) was not correlated with the percentage of motile sperm ( r=-0.0806,P 0.05).Following the increase of percentage of sperm motility, the population of sperm in the fast velocity group increased and that in the low velocity group decreased, sperm VAP,VCL,VSL,BCF and ALH increased, and LIN,STR decreased.(2)In asthenospermic semen,it presented a decreasing of sperm velocity following the decreasing of percentage of motility sperm.Compared with normozoospermic semen, the progressive motility and velocity of sperm in asthenospermic semen declined sharply( P 0.05),but there was no differences of LIN and STR between the groups in asthenospermic semen and even between asthenospermic semen and normozoospermic semen. This showed that the decline of sperm progressive motility was due to decreasing of velocity( P0.05 ).Change of population in sperm motility was obviously found in medium velocity group.(3)PF treatment on asthenospermic semen significantly increased sperm motility percentage ( P 0.001),sperm progressive motility ( P0.001 ), and sperm population in fast velocity group (P 0.001).The LIN and STR were not effected obviously by PF. Conclusion: In normozoospermic semen, the ratio of progressive sperm in the total motile sperm was not correlated with the percentage of motile sperm, but was correlated with the parameter of sperm velocity. The population of sperm in medium velocity group was relatively balanced. In asthenospermic semen, decline of sperm progressive motility was due to decreasing of velocity; population in velocity was clearly changed in medium velocity group.PF had effects on increasing sperm motility percentage, sperm progressive motility, and sperm population in the fast velocity group, but the LIN and STR of sperm were not effected by PF.
