Correlation between Famous International Literature Retrieval System SCI and Science & Technology Evaluation in China

Abstract

Based on the 2003 and 2004 Chinese ST Papers Statistics and Analysis Annual Research Report published by Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China,the distribution of SCI papers is analyzed in this paper.It shows that the distribution of the amount of the papers indexed by SCI is greatly out of balance in terms of region,disciplines and language.The normal development of research may be hindered when SCI is simply used as the main indicator of science technology research in China.Finally,some opinions and suggestions of SCI as the indicator of science technology evaluation are put forward.
